Blacksmithing

The New Agrarian School near Big Fork, Montana is a place born of dreams and dedication. The school is the vision of Jeffery Funk who is known as one of the most influential and experienced Blacksmiths in the country. Now at the eve of his 35+ year career, he has modestly and diligently created a blacksmithing home to pass on invaluable and irreplaceable knowledge. Running workshops out of his school he is able to offer courses ranging from wild harvesting iron ore to finished pieces of art. His passion is palpable and one quickly realized how important what he has to offer is. His teaching goes beyond how to work with metal. Much of the dialog when photographing this project was centered around craftsmanship as a way of life. He spoke of honoring processes that were hard-earned through the course of history and how they are largely being replaced by convenience.
